For site owners
LiveNotes shows comments on pages published by other people, including yours. If you would rather it did not, you can have it switched off entirely. No argument, no review process.
Before publishing: replace [CONTACT EMAIL] below with a real
address you monitor. An opt-out route nobody answers is worse than none.
How to opt out
Either of these works. Pick whichever is easier.
1. Publish a file
Serve a file at /.well-known/livenotes-optout containing your domain name. For
example, at https://example.com/.well-known/livenotes-optout:
example.com
This proves control of the domain without any correspondence. We check it, then apply the opt-out.
2. Email us
Write to [CONTACT EMAIL] from an address at the domain, naming the domain you
want disabled.
What happens
Once an opt-out is applied, three things become true:
- Your domain is removed from the site list the extension downloads, so installed extensions stop making any request about your pages at all. They do not ask and get refused; they never ask.
- New comments on your pages are rejected by the server.
- Existing comments stop being served to anyone.
The site list is rebuilt daily, so the change reaches everyone with the extension within 24 hours.
Scope
An opt-out covers a domain and everything under it, including subdomains. If you need something narrower, say so and we will discuss it.
Content about your site
Opting out removes the comment layer. If you want specific content removed for a different reason, such as defamation or copyright, that is a separate route, and faster: contact us.
Why we offer this at all
A layer of commentary over someone else's pages is not a neutral act. Products in this category have failed before, and largely because they treated the objections of site owners as an obstacle rather than a legitimate interest. We would rather lose the domains of people who do not want us than argue about it.
